By mid year the group had grown to fifty-six members. The first fund raiser, a barbecue was held at the Roger Bartels farm on May 31,1980. This has been a annual event hosted by the Bartels. In 1980,the group decided they should have a parade unit. A unanimous decision was made for “Little Red Dodge Pickups”. The first 10 were delivered in April 1981. Roger Bousquet was the first parade Captain. June 26, 1981, was the first parade participation at the Wakefield Nebraska Centennial.
Five more pickups were purchased in 1983 and five more in 1984. The members of the Cornhuskers attend many events including parades and a Golf tournament and are a dedicated Unit, at this time We now have sixteen “Little Red Pickups”.
